Silla University Selected for 15 Final Technology Development Projects in the Pet Industry ... Commercialization Support Provided
Shilla University (President Heo Nam-sik) has finalized the selection of 15 technology development projects recruited to foster the companion animal industry in the Busan area and will provide focused support.
Shilla University is promoting the Companion Animal Industry Specialized University Innovation Research Complex Project (I-URP) with support from Busan City to nurture companies in the companion animal industry and strengthen competitiveness in the Busan region.
The Shilla University Companion Animal Business Specialized I-URP Project Group called for the '2023 Industry-Academia Cooperation Technology Development Projects' targeting companies and research institutes related to the companion animal industry in June to develop industry-academia cooperation technology utilizing the university's infrastructure and technology.
This call selected 15 projects in four fields?Pet Tech, Pet Food, Pet Care, and Pet Living?through evaluation of research and development plans and face-to-face presentations by a panel of experts.
The I-URP Project Group plans to support up to 25 million KRW per project to achieve goals including the development of 20 prototypes and industrialization cases, and 10 patent applications, aiming at technology transfer, technology industrialization, quality improvement, and strengthening R&D capabilities.
The selection of these projects is expected to serve as a driving force for fostering the companion animal industry in the Busan area, including increasing sales and creating employment for participating companies.

Bae Il-kwon, head of the Shilla University I-URP Project Group, said, “In addition to supporting technology development projects, we are conducting various initiatives to foster the companion animal industry, such as private accelerator programs, participation in fairs and festivals to disseminate achievements, specialized training for employees and students, and providing residential spaces for companies and startups.” He added, “We will make multifaceted efforts to establish a growth foundation for related businesses by supporting industry-academia-research infrastructure networking to revitalize the companion animal industry.”
