New York Cultural Center, Special Exhibition of Ceramics by 'Goryeo Celadon Masters' Kim Seyong and Kim Dohun
The Korean Cultural Center New York (Director Kim Cheon-su) announced on the 1st that it will hold a special exhibition of ceramics titled "Story of a Thousand Years: Master of GoryeoCeladon," featuring master Goryeo celadon artist Kim Se-yong and his successor Dr. Kim Do-hoon, in Manhattan, New York, from August 10 to 31 (local time) to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance.
At the age of 77, Master Se-chang Kim Se-yong continues to actively create works. Recognized for his efforts to preserve and pass down the tradition of Goryeo celadon for over 50 years, he was designated as Korea’s Master Artisan No. 349 in 2002. His works, credited with giving birth to 21st-century celadon, are included in the collections of the Dalai Lama and Queen Elizabeth II. Dr. Kim Do-hoon, a ceramist and the successor of Master Kim Se-yong as well as his son, currently resides in the United States and is dedicated to introducing Korea’s excellent ceramics.
About 50 of the finest celadon works created by the two masters will be showcased in this exhibition. Notably, the largest celadon vase in history, standing 42 inches tall and taking over 10 years to create, will also be unveiled.

Dr. Kim Do-hoon, who prepared the exhibition, said, “I am delighted to present 21st-century Goryeo celadon embodying a thousand years of history here in New York, a global center of culture and the arts. I hope this exhibition will be a gift that offers local New Yorkers the essence of beautiful and excellent Korean culture and inspires pride in our culture among Korean expatriates.”
