Dobong-gu Supports Cooling Expenses for Elderly Paper Collectors During Summer Heatwave as Part of Heatwave Countermeasures
Conducted Living Condition Survey for Elderly Paper Collectors in 14 Neighborhoods, Selected 51 Eligible Seniors for Support
Provides 70,000 KRW per Month for 3 Months, Totaling 210,000 KRW During Summer
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that as part of its heatwave countermeasures, it will provide 70,000 KRW per month for three months during the summer to low-income vulnerable elderly paper collectors in the area to help cover cooling expenses.
An official from the district stated, “With the recent sharp rise in energy prices and increased temperatures causing a surge in heat-related illnesses, we hope that elderly paper collectors, who are vulnerable to heatwave risks, can spend the summer safely and healthily. This cooling expense support plan was prepared with that in mind.”
The district conducted a living condition survey of elderly paper collectors through welfare planners in 14 neighborhoods and selected 51 seniors whose income is below 120% of the median income as eligible recipients.
The cooling expense support amounts to 70,000 KRW per month from July to September, totaling 210,000 KRW, which will be directly deposited into the recipients’ accounts by the Dobong-gu Social Welfare Council.
Additionally, Dobong-gu plans to conduct ongoing monitoring using human safety networks such as the Neighborhood Community Security Council and Our Neighborhood Care Group to check on the well-being of elderly paper collectors during the summer.
