MS Secures Generative AI Hub with Expansion of Data Centers in Japan
Microsoft (MS) has decided to expand its data centers in Japan and utilize them as hubs for its generative artificial intelligence (AI) business, NHK and Kyodo News reported on the 27th.
According to the report, MS plans to offer government and corporate services that process information from the AI chatbot 'ChatGPT' entirely within Japan. MS has maintained a strategic partnership with ChatGPT developer OpenAI since 2019. This service will be the third after the United States and Europe, and the first in Asia.
Concerns have been raised that when data centers for generative AI are located overseas, there could be issues regarding confidentiality and the management of highly sensitive information. However, with the new service, industries that require data to be used in closed environments, such as banks, are expected to find it easier to use ChatGPT in their operations.
