Democratic Party Daegu City Chapter: "Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo Playing Golf While the Whole Country Faces Flooding"
The Democratic Party of Korea Daegu City Party criticized on the 17th, saying, "While the whole country was suffering from floods and many casualties occurred, Mayor Hong Joon-pyo of Daegu went to play golf."
In a statement released that day, the Democratic Party of Korea Daegu City Party claimed, "The whole country was flooded, and the government formed the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to prepare comprehensive measures. The ruling and opposition parties suspended the National Assembly schedule and declared cooperation to overcome the disaster. However, according to media reports, Mayor Hong went to Palgongsan CC to take shots on the 15th."
The Democratic Party of Korea Daegu City Party continued, "While Daegu City has been operating the Daegu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters since the 14th, how should we deal with a crazy mayor who should be sitting in the situation room but went to play golf on Saturday, the very next day the headquarters was formed?" Then they asked, "I want to ask why this person is serving as mayor. He told MZ generation public officials to 'resign' if they want a four-day workweek, but he himself takes all the weekends off and only works '9 TO 6' on weekdays. Isn't that a grade 9 public official, not a metropolitan mayor?"
The statement also said, "Due to the heavy rain, one person went missing in Daegu, and as many as 26 casualties occurred in Gyeongbuk. What on earth was the mayor thinking if he went to the golf course in such a situation? Among the 17 metropolitan governors nationwide, who went to play golf this weekend? Why didn't the Seoul mayor and Gyeonggi governor go?"
The Democratic Party of Korea Daegu City Party urged, "Mayor Hong must apologize immediately. The mayor's behavior, forgetting his duties, only causes anger among Daegu citizens."

Mayor Hong stated on Facebook that day, "Daegu has no flood damage, so we are spending the weekend freely. Is there any regulation that public officials can play tennis but not golf? I don't care if they nitpick. It would be different if I were the president, but for other public officials, weekends are free."
