Sahmyook University Environmental Ecology Research Institute Selected as 'Climate Change Mediator Monitoring Hub Center'
Samyuk University announced on the 14th that its Environmental Ecology Research Institute was recently selected as the '2023 Regional Climate Change Vector Surveillance Hub Center - Capital Area Zone 2' (hereinafter Capital Area Zone 2 Center), organized by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
The 'Climate Change Vector Surveillance Hub Center' is an institution that investigates and monitors vector-borne diseases caused by climate change, with 16 centers currently operating nationwide.
As the Capital Area Zone 2 Center, Samyuk University's Environmental Ecology Research Institute conducts surveys on the distribution of infectious disease vectors (mosquitoes, chigger mites, and hard ticks) and pathogen infection status in northern Seoul and the Gyeonggi region. Specific activities include △monitoring the occurrence and distribution of infectious disease vectors △investigating pathogen infection rates in vectors △securing biological resources of vectors △reporting surveillance results of vectors and pathogens and submitting specimens.
Kim Dong-geon, director of the Environmental Ecology Research Institute, stated, "Due to recent global warming, the occurrence and distribution of vectors are expanding, and imported vectors from overseas are increasing. We will continuously investigate and monitor these changes to establish more effective infectious disease prevention policies and strive to establish ourselves as a hub institution for climate change response infectious disease management projects in the metropolitan area."
