Irom Co., Ltd. Signs MOU with Moms Bodycare Co., Ltd. to Develop Nutritional Drinks Exclusively for Pregnant Women
Additional Energy Requirements of Approximately 340 kcal and 450 kcal on Average According to Early/Mid/Late Pregnancy Stages
Irom Co., Ltd., which possesses technology and clinical know-how accumulated through 26 years of research in the field of plant science, and Moms Body Care Co., Ltd., a company specializing in maternal health management, announced that they have agreed to jointly develop and sell a protein drink as a nutritional product exclusively for pregnant women and have signed a related MOU.
Moms Body Care (CEO Woosung Kim) is a health specialist company that operates a rehabilitation exercise center exclusively for pregnant women, prescribing necessary exercises for pregnant and postpartum mothers and improving quality of life through various health management programs to alleviate health discomforts experienced during pregnancy and childbirth. Its subsidiary, Moms Body Care Edu, is a maternal sports medicine education center that trains prenatal exercise prescribers, maternal nutrition managers, and postpartum exercise specialists who work in obstetrics hospitals, postpartum care centers, and specialized exercise centers.
Pregnant women mostly carry concerns about weight gain during pregnancy. Due to worries about possible changes in body shape after childbirth, pregnant women seek a lot of information on balanced diets. Both insufficient and excessive weight gain during pregnancy can cause problems.
According to pregnancy nutrition management data reported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Promotion Institute, if weight gain is below the appropriate amount, the mother may suffer from anemia, premature rupture of membranes, and impaired placental formation, while the fetus may face risks of low birth weight, preterm birth, and congenital malformations.
Conversely, if weight gain exceeds the appropriate amount, the mother may develop gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and gestational hypertension, and the fetus may be at risk of macrosomia, congenital malformations, and miscarriage. Therefore, it is crucial for pregnant women to maintain an appropriate weight gain that is neither excessive nor insufficient.
According to the 2022 data from the Korean Nutrition Society on the “Utilization of Nutrient Intake Standards for Koreans,” the recommended daily protein intake for general women is 50?55g, whereas pregnant women need an additional 15?30g. For carbohydrates, considering the glucose used by the mother’s brain and the fetus’s brain, a daily intake of 175g is recommended.
Essential fatty acids important for the development of the fetus’s brain and retinal tissue are recommended to be consumed at an omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid ratio of 4?10:1 according to Korean nutrient intake standards. For other trace nutrients, sodium is recommended at 1,500mg, chlorine at 2,300mg, potassium at 3,500mg, and magnesium at 320mg, the same as for women of reproductive age.
However, consuming various nutrients in appropriate amounts is very challenging for modern people with busy lifestyles. Especially with the increasing number of home training populations and the many protein drink products being released, it is necessary to choose products from companies with expertise in food development, health management, accumulated experience, and clinical data.
Regarding this agreement, Dongwon Kim, CEO of Irom Co., Ltd., stated, “Irom, which has won the Brand Customer Loyalty Award for three consecutive years, is expected to develop a competitive protein drink that helps pregnant women recover their health by combining Irom’s reliability and product development know-how with Moms Body Care’s expertise and health management know-how in prescribing individualized exercise programs for each pregnant woman to aid health recovery and rehabilitation.”
