[Featured Stock] Mobis, Following AI, MS Eyes Nuclear Fusion... Unlimited Power Supply If Project Succeeds
MOBIS stock is on the rise. The news that Sam Altman, founder and CEO of OpenAI, the developer of the generative artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT, has embarked on the commercialization of nuclear fusion power, known as the 'dream technology,' appears to be influencing the stock price.
As of 10:09 a.m. on the 11th, MOBIS is trading at 2,460 won, up 11.56% from the previous day.
According to major foreign media, Helion Energy, a nuclear fusion startup invested in by Altman, has signed an electricity supply contract with Microsoft (MS). Under the contract, Helion must supply at least 50 MW (megawatts) of electricity annually to MS through nuclear fusion power starting in 2028.
Brad Smith, Vice Chairman of MS, said, "We would not have signed the contract if we were not confident that nuclear fusion technology development would accelerate."
Vice Chairman Smith added, "The biggest innovations over the next decade could come from fusion power, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing." He further noted that both AI and quantum computing require massive amounts of electricity, and nuclear fusion is expected to provide nearly unlimited power.
This is reportedly the first time a power supply contract through nuclear fusion power has been finalized. Nuclear fusion power is a technology that artificially induces fusion reactions similar to those occurring in the sun on Earth to generate energy. If commercialized, the technology is expected to provide virtually unlimited electricity without emitting greenhouse gases or pollutants.

MOBIS's business sectors are divided into accelerators, nuclear fusion, machine learning, and smart factory solutions. The nuclear fusion power plant control system currently supplies the core control system to ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), the world's first project underway in France. MOBIS is involved in building control systems for five out of six sectors. Among the three central control systems, it is executing the CODAC framework project, which is the conventional control system, and the interlock control system project. MOBIS is recognized as a key participant in the overall ITER control system construction. Following the successful operation of ITER, MOBIS's participation is expected to continuously expand through the construction of the demo system for ITER member countries (EU, Korea, USA, China, Japan, Russia, India) after 2030 and the full-scale construction of nuclear fusion power plants.
