Court Rules "KEPCO to Compensate 8.7 Billion KRW to Goseong Wildfire Victims"
In the legal dispute over compensation for the 2019 Gangwon Goseong wildfire damage, the disaster victims won partial victory in the first trial.
On the 20th, the Civil Division of the Chuncheon District Court Sokcho Branch ruled in favor of some of the plaintiffs in a 26 billion won damage compensation lawsuit filed by 64 wildfire victims, including disaster victims, against Korea Electric Power Corporation, the cause of the wildfire.
The court ordered KEPCO to pay 8.7 billion won, which is 60% of the appraised amount based on the expert appraisers' evaluations in areas such as designated houses and forest land. This is about one-third of the 26.7 billion won claimed by the disaster victims.
