Naju-si Celebrates 10th Anniversary Ceremony of Naju Senior Club Opening
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hanhyuk Lee] On the 26th, Jeonnam Naju City announced that the ‘Naju Senior Club 10th Anniversary Ceremony and Silver Culture and Arts Festival’ held at Dongshin University Gymnasium on the 25th was successfully concluded.
The ceremony, hosted by Naju Senior Club (Director Sunyoung Kim), the dedicated institution for senior job creation in the region, was attended by about 1,000 elderly participants involved in senior jobs. It served as an occasion to share the achievements of senior job and social activity support projects and to exchange mutual gratitude and encouragement.
The event was held in two parts, starting with pre-ceremony performances by Dongshin University Dance Club and the Youth Gugak Group (Bidan-gil), followed by the anniversary ceremony and the Silver Culture and Arts Festival.
The first part included a 10-year progress report of Naju Senior Club, screening of the 10th anniversary commemorative video, awards for meritorious persons, commemorative and congratulatory speeches by internal and external guests, and performances. The second part featured various experience booths, talent shows, recreation activities, and prize draws, creating a joyful atmosphere of harmony.
The experience booths added enjoyment to the event with senior job photo exhibitions, natural dyeing experiences, instant photo shoots, nail art, hand cream making, and exhibitions and sales of products made by seniors.
For the 10th anniversary meritorious awards, exemplary seniors participating in the senior job project, Youngja Lim (79, female) from Geumnam-dong and Bongja Yoo (78, female) from Seongbuk-dong received mayoral awards. Additionally, Senior Club Director Sunyoung Kim (55, female), Deputy Mi-young Na (41, female), and employee Minseok Kim (28, male) were awarded mayoral honors for their contributions to the job project.
Jung Sincheon, Secretary General of the Korea Presbyterian Welfare Foundation, the entrusted corporation operating the Senior Club, said in his commemorative speech, “Since its opening in 2012, Naju Senior Club has played a pioneering role in the field of senior job creation and social activity support projects. We hope it continues to develop as much as it has worked for the happy and fulfilling later years of local seniors over the past 10 years.”
Mayor Byungtae Yoon said in his congratulatory speech, “Among the numerous senior welfare policies being promoted today, the most necessary and valuable welfare is jobs. We will work harder with the Senior Club to develop and expand quality jobs in various fields for the welfare and happiness of seniors.”
He added, “We will do our best not only to provide jobs but also to care for the health and safety of seniors by promoting projects such as supplying standing tables and chairs to senior centers and village halls, which are the main living spaces for seniors, as well as increasing support payments for senior bathing and beauty expenses.”
