New Release 'Chonggongse' After Chuseok... Game Companies Aim for a Turnaround in Atmosphere
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Game companies are launching various new titles after Chuseok to turn the tide. Netmarble and Krafton, which posted sluggish results in the second quarter this year, are preparing ambitious titles for the second half. Kakao Games, which faced difficulties due to the 'carriage protest,' is also set to release new games.
According to the game industry on the 12th, Netmarble is preparing to release six new titles in the second half of this year. They will launch three blockchain-based new titles including 'Modoo Marble: Meta World,' 'Monster Arena Ultimate Battle,' and 'King of Fighters: Arena,' as well as a total of six new titles including 'Overprime (Early Access),' 'BTS Dream: Tiny Tan House,' and 'Charlotte's Table.'
Netmarble posted an operating loss of 34.7 billion KRW in the second quarter, widening its operating loss compared to the previous quarter. Therefore, it plans to bet everything on new titles in the second half to break the consecutive losses. The MMORPG 'Seven Knights Revolution,' released in July, is also expected to contribute to improving performance.
Krafton is reducing its dependence on 'Battlegrounds' through 'The Callisto Protocol' and 'Moonbreaker.'
'The Callisto Protocol' is a survival horror game. It is highly anticipated as the next work of developer Glen Schofield, known for the hit 'Dead Space.' It is scheduled to be released on December 2 as a PC game based on consoles, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
'Moonbreaker' is a turn-based strategy game based on a science fiction universe and a new intellectual property (IP). It was developed by Unknown Worlds, a U.S. game studio famous for the underwater exploration adventure game series 'Subnautica.' It is scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release on the global game distribution platform Steam on the 30th.
Kakao Games will also introduce new titles. They plan to release the collectible RPG 'Eversoul' and the survival first-person shooter (FPS) game 'Distera' in the second half.
'Eversoul' is a mobile game set in a fantasy universe where players can collect and nurture spirits with various charms. It features content that allows direct communication and bonding with spirits, including relationship content that provides the enjoyment of a dating-like experience.
'Distera' adopts a dystopian universe familiar to global users. It combines FPS shooter systems with survival game elements such as gathering, crafting, and building. The developers said, "It is designed so that users without prior knowledge can quickly understand the purpose and method of play, and in the process, naturally immerse themselves in the game's universe."
Nexon is preparing a new racing game, 'KartRider: Drift.' Players can enjoy racing in speed mode and item mode to compete driving skills, and customize their karts with the 'Livery' feature, which allows creating and attaching personalized stickers.
