Support for Business Owners with Disabilities Will Also Be Strengthened
Rep. Kim Ye-ji Introduces Amendment Bills to the Act on Employment of Persons with Disabilities and the Act on Disabled Enterprises
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 6th, Kim Ye-ji, a member of the People Power Party, took the lead in proposing partial amendments to the "Act on the Promotion of Employment and Vocational Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons" (hereinafter referred to as the Disabled Employment Act) and the "Act on the Promotion of Activities of Disabled Enterprises" (hereinafter referred to as the Disabled Enterprises Act) to expand vocational life support for business owners with severe disabilities and one-person business owners.
The current Disabled Employment Act limits the support for work assistants to workers with severe disabilities only, so heads of institutions and business owners with severe disabilities are completely unable to use work assistant services. Also, the current Disabled Enterprises Act has no provisions supporting one-person businesses run by persons with severe disabilities.
Accordingly, Rep. Kim proposed an amendment to the Disabled Employment Act that specifies the recipients of work assistant services as "workers with severe disabilities and business owners" and expands the scope of service recipients by changing the term "work assistant" to "work support assistant," and also took the lead in proposing an amendment to the Disabled Enterprises Act to establish a legal basis for providing personnel to support the vocational life of one-person business owners with severe disabilities.
