"There Is a Terrible Morning Habit"... Musk's Confession of Going to Bed at 3 AM
Habit of Checking Phone Stems from Anxiety
Don't Want to Miss Company Emergencies Even While Sleeping
"Instead of Checking Phone Immediately Upon Waking, I Will Exercise for at Least 20 Minutes"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, revealed the morning habit he wants to fix.
On the 13th (local time), according to CNBC in the United States, Musk recently appeared on the YouTube channel Full Send Podcast and said, "I have a bad habit that I think many people have," adding, "The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is check my phone." He added, "This is actually a terrible habit."
Musk, who usually goes to bed at 3 a.m. and wakes up at 9:30 a.m., explained that his habit of checking his phone stems from anxiety. He wants to avoid missing any company emergencies even while sleeping.
Musk explained, "Because I run SpaceX and Tesla, there are often things that happen overnight." He also said, "I need to exercise to maintain my health," adding, "So I plan to change from looking at my phone immediately after waking up to exercising for at least 20 minutes first, and then checking my phone."
CNBC reported that Musk's habit is not much different from others, citing a market research firm IDC's finding that "about 80% of phone users check their phones within 15 minutes of waking up."
Furthermore, according to a 2019 study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, moderate morning exercise every day was found to improve memory, attention, and decision-making abilities.
Meanwhile, Musk added, "I need to maintain a better physique through exercise."
