Gwangju Dong-gu 'Yeohaengja's Jip' Officially Opens for Operation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju, is set to officially open and operate the traveler convenience space ‘Traveler's House (ZIP),’ a project ambitiously prepared to create a ‘cultural tourism city that people want to find and stay in,’ with an opening ceremony on the 8th.
The opening ceremony was held in the form of a free open party with the concept of ‘camping,’ attended by Dong-gu Mayor Im Taek, National Assembly member Lee Byung-hoon, Vice Mayor of Culture and Economy Kim Kwang-jin, Dong-gu Council Chairman Kim Jae-sik, among others. Special guests included Hye-rin, a member of the girl group EXID, and broadcaster Julian, known for appearing on the show Non-Summit, who performed a special act using a suitcase.
As part of the ‘Gwangju Representative Cultural Village Project,’ Dong-gu purchased a building (Dongmyeong-dong 154-67, 75-6) that was used as the residence of the Jeonnam Provincial Superintendent of Education for 27 years from 1980 to 2007. The building was rebranded into a space imbued with Gwangju’s uniqueness and identity, reborn as the tourism platform ‘Traveler's House (ZIP),’ which contains killer content and provides differentiated information that allows travelers visiting Dong-gu to continuously consume Gwangju’s tourism content by expanding and producing it.
Traveler's House (ZIP) is a building with one basement floor and two above-ground floors, featuring ▲Tourist Information Center (information desk, luggage storage, etc.) ▲Zipper Shop (Dong-gu representative tourism product select shop) ▲Welcome Lounge (indoor lounge and outdoor terrace) ▲Zipper Pantry (food provision) ▲Traveler Research Lab (office and meeting space) ▲Mudeung Space (commemorative photo zone), among others.
Dong-gu expects that Traveler's House (ZIP) will serve as a resting space where travelers visiting Gwangju can recharge their mind and body, as well as a complex exhibition space used for planning trips and relaxation. Traveler's House operates from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday and is closed every Monday and on public holidays.

Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “Located in Dongmyeong-dong, an alley filled with the old charm of Gwangju and the most popular spot among young people, ‘Traveler's House (ZIP)’ is expected to become a representative space leading the revitalization of tourism in Dong-gu.” He added, “Starting with the opening of the Fountain of Light, we will create a city rich in attractive tourism content themed around night tourism to build ‘a city everyone wants to visit, Fun City Dong-gu.’”
