[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has significantly increased the number of parking spaces for the IoT-based smart shared parking project, "Shared Parking Together," this year.
The district secured 92 shared parking spaces in 2019, 326 spaces in 2020, and 587 spaces in 2021, expanding by more than 1,000 spaces compared to last year.
Gangnam-gu has been promoting the "Shared Parking Together" project, where residents assigned resident-priority parking spaces can register the times when their vehicles are not parked via smartphone apps "The Gangnam" or "Parking Friends," allowing anyone to prepay through the app and use the available parking spaces.
The parking fee is 900 KRW per 30 minutes, and residents who share their spaces receive 50% of the parking revenue.
Last year, the district completed the installation of IoT parking sensors in all resident-priority parking lots and revised related regulations so that participants in shared parking can receive higher scores during rotational allocation.
Additionally, starting this year, dedicated personnel have been assigned to actively communicate with resident-priority parking space assignees and waitlist members, providing information on the benefits of participating in shared parking, which has greatly expanded the number of shared parking spaces.

Moving forward, we will continue to develop various policies to alleviate parking difficulties in residential areas and spread a culture of sharing, leading the creation of a 'Dignified Gangnam' that shares, cares, and respects."
