UN Security Council to Convene Emergency Special Session on 28th to Discuss Russia's Invasion of Ukraine
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] A United Nations (UN) emergency special session will be convened to discuss Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
According to Axios and others, the UN Security Council (UNSC) held an emergency meeting on the 27th (local time) and passed a resolution to convene the emergency special session.
Accordingly, the UN plans to hold the emergency special session on the 28th. In this vote, Russia was the only country among the 15 council members to oppose the convening of the special session. China, India, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) abstained.
The emergency special session is a meeting format designed to respond to the paralysis of the Security Council's functions due to the veto power exercised by permanent members. Since it is convened with the support of at least nine Security Council members or a majority of UN member states, Russia could not block it with a veto.
This will be the 11th time an emergency special session has been held since 1950. It is reported to be the first time in 25 years since the session was held in 1997 to discuss the Israel-Palestine issue.

Meanwhile, the ?lys?e Palace announced that France will submit a resolution at the meeting on the 28th calling for humanitarian access to Ukraine and a ceasefire.
