[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 30s accused of killing his parents and older brother at an apartment in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, appeared in court on the 12th for a pretrial detention hearing.
The Seoul Southern District Court began the pretrial detention hearing for Kim Mo (31) around 2 p.m. and is currently reviewing the necessity of detention. The decision on Kim's detention will be made within the day.
Kim, who appeared in court, did not respond to reporters' questions such as "Do you admit the charges?", "Why did you report yourself?", and "When did you plan the killings?".
Kim is accused of killing his parents and older brother at his home in Yangcheon-gu on the 10th (parricide and murder).
Immediately after the crime, at around 6:50 a.m., he called 119 and reported, "I killed three people." The police, having been notified by the fire department, rushed to the scene, but the family members were already deceased upon arrival.
According to the bereaved family, Kim suffers from a mental illness and reportedly stated during police investigation that he purchased a weapon three days before the crime.
Regarding the motive, it is known that Kim claimed he was bullied by his family and discriminated against because he was an adopted son; however, Kim's relatives denied that he was adopted, stating it was not true at all.
