[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Construction companies lost a defamation correction lawsuit against MBC’s investigative program "Straight," which reported on the conflict of interest allegations involving Park Deokheum, a member of the People Power Party.
On the 11th, the Civil Division 12 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Lee Byungsam) announced that it dismissed the defamation correction lawsuit filed by five construction companies, including Lee Jun General Construction and Hyeyoung Construction, against MBC.
MBC’s "Straight" reported in August 2020 that construction companies owned by Park’s family continuously won contracts worth hundreds of billions of won from institutions auditing them.
In response, the construction companies filed a defamation correction lawsuit against MBC regarding the broadcast.
