[Box Office] Marvel's 'Spider-Man' Surges to 6 Million Viewers, Unfazed by Pandemic

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Iseul] The Marvel movie Spider-Man: No Way Home has surpassed 6 million viewers for the first time since the pandemic.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office data system, over the three days of last weekend (December 31 to January 2), Spider-Man: No Way Home (directed by Jon Watts) was screened 21,588 times across 2,159 screens, attracting 705,664 viewers. Since its release on the 15th of last month, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 6,074,308, with a box office share of 65.1%.
Spider-Man: No Way Home surpassed 5 million viewers last week, overtaking Nam-san-ui Bujangdeul (The Man Standing Next) which had 4.75 million viewers, achieving the highest box office among domestic releases in 2020-2021, and has gained popularity by attracting 6 million viewers for the first time since the pandemic.
The second place was taken by Kingsman: The First Agent, which drew 208,556 viewers, with a total of 776,399 viewers since its release on the 22nd of last month.
The romance film Happy New Year, released on the 29th of last month, ranked third, the highest among Korean films. During the period, it attracted 113,707 viewers, with a cumulative audience of 186,213.
The Matrix: Resurrections attracted 18,094 viewers, ranking fourth, and the animation Encanto: The Magical World took fifth place.

The total number of moviegoers last weekend was 1,095,972. This represents a decrease of more than 35% compared to the previous week, which included Christmas, when about 1.76 million people visited theaters.
