Overseas VCs Focused on Promising Domestic Startups

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Kwon Chil-seung, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry), the Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kim Hak-do, hereinafter referred to as SBC), and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development (President Kim Yong-moon, hereinafter referred to as KIED) announced on the 12th that they held the K-Startup Center (hereinafter KSC) Global Investment Attraction IR event.
The event, held over two days on the 9th and 10th at the Banyan Tree Hotel in Seoul, invited eight venture capital (VC) firms from four countries: the United States, Sweden, India, and Singapore. Twelve promising startups specializing in sectors such as AI, bio, and green industries participating in the KSC project presented. KSC is a startup-specialized customized globalization support platform currently operating programs in seven countries, including four hubs in Seattle, USA; New Delhi, India; Stockholm, Sweden; and Singapore, as well as Israel, Finland, and Paris, France.
The presenting companies for investment attraction were selected through a prior preference survey targeting overseas investors. After the public IR, one-on-one investment consultations were conducted both online and offline to exchange company information and discuss specific investment intentions. The webinar, conducted with lectures from overseas VCs, shared startup trends, successful investment cases, and business strategies from Southeast Asia, India, Sweden, and other regions. The Ministry, SBC, and KIED held a KSC performance creation workshop as a side event to explore dynamic overseas expansion plans for fostering startups globally.

Kim Hak-do, Chairman of SBC, stated, "Since the launch of the KSC project in 2019, we have supported 201 startups and achieved domestic and international investments of 290 billion KRW and exports of 21 million USD." He added, "SBC will continue to be a stepping stone responsible for the global growth of startups and SMEs."
