Haenam-gun, Uldolmok Skywalk Eco-friendly Design Recognized as 'Excellent'

Honored with Jeollanam-do Public Contest's Eco-Friendly Design Award for 5 Consecutive Years

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] The Uldolmok Skywalk in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, won the Excellence Award at the 6th Jeollanam-do Eco-friendly Design Awards Competition.

According to the county on the 3rd, the Eco-friendly Design Award is given in the excellent fields of eco-friendly space and architectural design to realize eco-friendly design that harmonizes nature, culture, and people.

Haenam-gun has been honored with awards for five consecutive years, starting with the Gosan Yunsan Island Relics Exhibition Hall in 2017, followed by Ttangkkeut Hwangto Nara Theme Village, Dalma Trail, and Heukseoksan Healing Forest.

The Uldolmok Skywalk is installed over the Uldolmok sea in Usuyeong, Haenam-gun, the victorious site of the Battle of Myeongnyang, and has been operating since last September.

It is equipped to allow visitors to walk over the sea to vividly experience the thrilling whirlpool sea of Uldolmok, which has the strongest tidal currents in Korea.

Inspired by Ganggangsullae, the entire structure is round-shaped with a total length of 110m, protruding 32m towards the sea.

Designed to minimize damage to the natural landscape, it harmoniously arranges a Panokseon ship, which recreates the time of the Battle of Myeongnyang, and the main tower of the skywalk, naturally shaping the Panokseon's mast, which received high praise.

With nighttime landscape lighting, it is also popular for its unique views harmonizing with the twin bridge, Jindo Bridge.

A county official stated, "The skywalk, a new landmark of Usuyeong tourist site, and the marine cable car will serve as a catalyst for the development of Jeollanam-do tourism on the southwest coast," adding, "We will make every effort to fully utilize eco-friendly design by, for example, installing additional nighttime lighting during project implementation."
