According to China's state-run media Xinhua News Agency on the 30th, Minister Wang made these remarks during the Korea-China Foreign Ministers' meeting held the previous day in Rome, Italy, on the sidelines of the G20 summit. He said, "A series of new changes have recently appeared in the situation on the Korean Peninsula." He added, "China supports the improvement and development of inter-Korean relations."

Minister Wang also stated, "China has consistently insisted that both North and South Korea, as the owners of the Korean Peninsula, should play a positive and proactive role." He continued, "China supports all efforts and proposals that help promote a political solution to the Korean Peninsula issue and will continue to play a constructive role for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region."
