[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] Controversy continues over Kang Yoon-hyung, a psychiatrist and wife of Won Hee-ryong, a presidential pre-candidate from the People Power Party and former governor of Jeju Province, referring to Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, as a "sociopath."
On the 20th, Kang appeared on the Maeil Newspaper YouTube broadcast and said, "It is unfortunate that candidate Lee has that level of support," adding, "Although he is from another party, I worry about how the Republic of Korea has come to this by having him as that party's candidate."
When the host remarked, "Candidate Lee seems like a Janus, a person with both Jekyll and Hyde," Kang added, "Rather than that, he is more of a sociopath," and "Psychiatrically, it is called anti-social."
In response, food columnist Hwang Kyo-ik wrote on his Facebook on the 23rd, "It is unethical to publicly express a professional opinion on the mental state of a person who has not been directly treated by oneself." This refers to the reason the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association's Ethics Committee expelled psychiatrist Kim, who in March 2018 wrote on social media that a male actor was suspected of acute hypomania.
Hwang stated, "Kang, the wife of former Governor Won, publicly expressed a professional opinion on candidate Lee's mental state without having treated him," and argued, "The Korean Neuropsychiatric Association should expel Kang and recommend the relevant authorities revoke her medical license." He added, "Allowing a doctor who violates medical ethics to continue practicing endangers citizens."
On the 23rd, former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong and lawyer Hyun Geun-taek engaged in a heated debate on MBC Radio's 'Politician Insider.'

Earlier, on the 23rd, former Governor Won appeared on MBC Radio's "Politician Insider" and, when asked about his wife's remarks, said, "I can speak based on professional opinion and support her statements," adding, "If a diagnosis through examination is necessary, I am willing to proceed with the examination and issue a medical certificate." On the other hand, Hyun Geun-taek, a lawyer who served as a spokesperson for Lee Jae-myung's campaign, demanded an official apology, stating that Kang's remarks constitute defamation of a candidate and dissemination of false information under the Public Official Election Act.
During the broadcast, the two engaged in a heated argument, even pointing fingers at each other. When the host requested they move seats to mediate, Hyun reportedly left first. Former Governor Won said, "I vowed to always stand by my wife under any circumstances," briefly left to calm down, and then returned to continue the broadcast.

In response, Shin Bo-ra, chief spokesperson for Won Hee-ryong's campaign, issued a statement saying, "Lawyer Hyun called Kang's views false directly to her face, a reckless behavior befitting a former spokesperson of candidate Lee," and demanded an apology. However, Seo Yong-ju, senior deputy spokesperson for the Democratic Party, countered in a statement, "Kang's remarks not only received a verbal warning for violating medical ethics but also have been judged by legal experts to likely constitute defamation under the Public Official Election Act," adding, "Candidate Won must clearly answer how he will take responsibility for his wife's actions that insulted the opposing party's candidate while ignoring public opinion."
