Janssen Vaccine Booster Shot Recommended... All Aged 18 and Over Eligible
Vaccination Required 2 Months After Completion
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC), an advisory body of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), unanimously recommended on the 15th (local time) to approve the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. All Janssen vaccine recipients aged 18 and over are eligible for the booster shot.
Accordingly, following Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen, all COVID-19 vaccines approved in the U.S. have received recommendations from the FDA advisory committee to administer booster shots.
The booster shot for the Janssen vaccine, which has lower efficacy compared to Pfizer and Moderna, should be administered at least 2 months after the initial vaccination. All adults aged 18 and over who have already received the Janssen vaccine must get the booster shot.
Previously, booster shots for Pfizer and Moderna were recommended only for high-risk groups, including seniors aged 65 and over, adults aged 18 and over with underlying health conditions, or those with frequent occupational exposure to COVID-19.
The FDA also stated that it may consider approving 'mix-and-match' booster shots, allowing those who received the Janssen vaccine to get Pfizer or Moderna vaccines instead of Janssen for their booster.

Based on the advisory committee's recommendation, the FDA is expected to decide soon on the approval of the Janssen booster shot. Subsequently, once the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issues vaccination recommendations, booster shot administration will begin.
