[Featured Stock] DA Tech, 'Second Tesla' Rivian Shows Increased Potential for Collaboration on New Battery Type Production
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] DA Technology, a company specializing in secondary battery equipment, is showing strong performance. The news that Rivian, a U.S. electric vehicle (EV) startup known as the 'second Tesla,' is visiting Korea to concretize its own battery production plans appears to have influenced the stock price. There is growing anticipation that domestic related companies may continue to collaborate during the process of establishing their own battery production plans.
As of 9:52 a.m. on the 8th, DA Technology is trading at 6,730 KRW, up 8.37% from the previous day.
Yesterday, an economic newspaper reported that next week, Rivian's working-level staff will hold meetings with domestic material, parts, and equipment companies to establish their own battery production line. It is known that earlier last month, about 10 engineers from Rivian also entered the country and met with domestic material, parts, and equipment companies.
Rivian recently disclosed its own battery production plan through a corporate public offering (IPO) application. Rivian is pursuing a plan to build a 100GWh scale battery factory by 2025.
During Rivian's visit to Korea last month, it is reported that they also held meetings with CIS, DA Technology, and others. DA Technology mainly produces notching equipment that cuts sheets coated with active material to appropriate sizes, and stacking equipment that stacks anode and cathode separators.
DA Technology stated, "Last month, through meetings with Rivian, we submitted estimates for equipment for trial production of prismatic batteries and are currently in discussions."
Industry insiders speculate that Rivian may also venture into producing a new type of battery that is neither prismatic, cylindrical, nor pouch type. Global EV industry interest is growing daily toward related companies that have enhanced competitiveness by cooperating with world-leading secondary battery companies such as LG Energy Solution, SK Innovation, and Samsung SDI.

DA Technology recently obtained a patent related to devices that manufacture secondary battery cells. The device can manufacture a cell stack by alternately stacking anode and cathode plates on a separator continuously supplied on a stage that reciprocates rotationally at a certain angle, where the anode and cathode plates are alternately placed on the stage.
