'Pizza Delivery' by Drone... First Commercialization in Sejong City
Drone pizza delivery will be commercialized for the first time in Sejong City.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will start commercial drone pizza delivery in Sejong City from the 21st in collaboration with domestic drone company 'Peace Square' and global pizza chain 'Domino's Pizza.'
Drone delivery will take place from this day until October 31, on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 PM to 6 PM, with 2 to 3 deliveries per hour. The commercial drone delivery route is from Domino's Pizza Sejong Boram Branch to Sejong Lake Park.
Consumers who want pizza delivered by drone can order using the official delivery application near Sejong Lake Park. They can also check the drone's real-time location through their mobile devices.
When receiving the delivered pizza, customers must enter a password generated at the time of order to prevent theft or loss incidents.
So far, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has focused on developing and demonstrating services using drones to foster the domestic drone industry. Peace Square, which succeeded in commercializing pizza delivery this time, has developed drone delivery technology with government funding of 248 million KRW.
Also, the precise satellite navigation technology used for this drone delivery is the real-time GPS correction system (MBC-RTK) developed by MBC over more than five years. Through collaboration with the Ministry, the accuracy of drone positioning has been dramatically improved.
The Ministry sees the commercialization of drone delivery in urban areas as a signal for creating new services using drones, an icon of the 4th industrial revolution.

Kim Dong-ik, head of the Advanced Aviation Division at the Ministry, said, "Observers and safety personnel have been deployed near Sejong Lake Park to prevent safety accidents related to this drone delivery commercialization," adding, "We plan to continuously foster necessary support measures so that services using drones can safely integrate into our daily lives."
