This book is a general knowledge book published to supplement the content of the citizen lectures held at Suwon She’s Medi Hospital in the second half of 2016.
She’s Medi Hospital and Professor Ahn Byung-woo of Hanshin University (currently President of the Academy of Korean Studies) conducted expert lectures on specific topics for citizens.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the citizen lecture series in 2016, the theme was set as “Empires in History,” and Professor Lee Young-seok and nine historians covered the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, Mongol Empire, British Empire, Sui-Tang Empire, German Third Reich, Japanese Empire, and American Empire.
Professor Lee Young-seok wrote Chapter 1, “Empires in History,” which serves as the general introduction, and Chapter 8, “The British Empire and the Modern World.”
