Gangseo-gu Installs 'Indoor Air Smart Meters' at 225 Senior Welfare Facilities
Check Indoor Air Quality by LED Light Color, Induce Ventilation and Reduce Density
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is taking steps to create clean zones in spaces where the elderly stay.
The district will install ‘Indoor Air Smart Meters’ in 225 elderly welfare facilities, including senior centers and welfare centers.
This measure aims to continuously monitor indoor air quality in real time, encourage regular ventilation, and maintain appropriate indoor density. The project was prepared to prevent COVID-19 infections and enhance preventive effects.
The ‘Indoor Air Smart Meter’ measures the concentration of carbon dioxide indoors in real time through a smart sensor and notifies users.
When the carbon dioxide concentration is below 1000 ppm, a blue light (normal) is on; between 1000 and 2000 ppm, an orange light (caution) is on; and above 2000 ppm, a red light (alert) is on.
When the orange or red light is on, immediate actions such as ventilating the room and adjusting the number of occupants should be taken to improve air quality.
The district plans to prioritize distributing the meters to elderly facilities that are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases and expand the target facilities after reviewing the infection prevention effects.
A district official said, “We launched this project to help the elderly easily understand indoor air conditions and take appropriate actions,” adding, “We will continue to take necessary measures so that all residents can live in a pleasant environment.”
