Samsung Electronics to Foster Advanced Technology with Indian University... Establishes AI and Machine Learning Research Center
Created KLE University of Technology and SEED Lab... Joint Research by Students, Professors, and Samsung Engineers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics is strengthening industry-academia cooperation locally by establishing an artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data engineering research lab in collaboration with an Indian university.
According to Samsung Electronics India’s newsroom on the 3rd, Samsung recently established the ‘SEED (Samsung Student Ecosystem for Engineered Data) Lab’ with KLE Technological University in India. In this lab, KLE Technological University students and faculty will jointly conduct projects with engineers from Samsung Electronics India’s Bangalore Research and Development (R&D) center. The main research areas include mobile camera technology, voice and text recognition, and machine learning.
Samsung Electronics explained, "This is the first time Samsung is undertaking such an initiative in Karnataka, southern India," adding, "It was created to provide the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z) with opportunities to research new advanced technologies and find solutions to various problems."
The SEED Lab spans 3,000 square feet (278.7㎡) and includes a special darkroom equipped with lighting devices for multimedia-related experiments. It also has infrastructure capable of storing, processing, and recording large volumes of data.
Dipesh Shah, Director of Samsung Electronics India Bangalore R&D Center, said, "Samsung aims not only to ignite the innovation ecosystem in India through this lab but also to expand industry-academia collaboration so that students can build capabilities to enter the industry," adding, "This is a step forward toward Samsung’s ‘#PoweringDigitalIndia’ vision."
Previously, to commemorate 25 years of local business operations last year, Samsung Electronics announced the ‘Powering Digital India’ initiative and pledged to work with the Indian central and state governments to promote manufacturing, R&D, and job creation.
