Apple, 1Q Tablet AP Sales Share 59%... Market No.1
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] Apple captured a 59% share of the global tablet application processor (AP) market in the first quarter.
According to market research firm Strategy Analytics (SA) on the 26th (local time), the tablet AP market in the first quarter grew 33% to reach $761 million.
Based on revenue, Apple's market share was 59%, ranking first. This was followed by Intel at 14% and Qualcomm at 10%. MediaTek and Samsung LSI were also among the top five companies.
Apple's tablet AP revenue in first place is estimated to have grown 60% compared to the same period last year. This strong first-quarter performance is attributed to the 5nm-based A14 Bionic and Apple Silicon M1. SA stated, "This is the highest market share in the past nine years," adding that "demand driven by the COVID-19 pandemic also helped."

Additionally, MediaTek's tablet AP shipments are estimated to have increased by 92% year-on-year. However, SA noted that due to a relatively lower average selling price (ASP), its revenue share is lower than its shipment share.
