[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] As more grooming enthusiasts visit Olive Young to stay healthy during the summer, competition in the men's care market targeting them is intensifying.
CJ Olive Young announced on the 15th that from June 1 to July 14, the purchase amount by male customers increased by about 25% compared to the previous year. This is interpreted as a rise in demand to manage skin sensitized by the early heat starting in June and body odor caused by sweat. By detailed category, sales increased significantly in skincare (63%), sun care (45%), and body cleansers (35%), in that order.
In particular, skincare products emphasizing 'functionality' and 'expertise' are popular as more male customers show interest in skin management. Led by 'Dr.G', genderless brands that previously did not distinguish by gender are strengthening their men's lines, while all-in-one products that had driven the existing market are now segmented by function such as 'whitening', 'soothing', and 'exfoliation' to meet higher expectations.
In sun care and cleansing products, male-specific items such as sunscreens with improved non-sticky textures and body washes that provide a refreshing feeling are gaining popularity, tailored to male customer characteristics. Recently, male cleansing products for localized care have also appeared.
Olive Young will hold a 'Men's Care Expo' discount event nationwide in stores and on its official online mall from the 16th to the 22nd. Under the theme 'A Man's Routine for Summer', essential summer products for grooming enthusiasts such as all-in-one products, nipple bands, and leg hair trimmers will be sold at up to 50% off.
Premium men's brands are also participating in this event. 'Lab Series' can be purchased at up to 20% off, and 'Biotherm Homme' is available at up to 10% off through Olive Young's online mall. Customers who purchase more than 20,000 won of event products will receive a men's care experience kit on a first-come, first-served basis.
