"Looks Like Voice Phishing..." Arrest of Withdrawal Agent Through Quick Service Courier Report
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A voice phishing cash withdrawal agent attempting to withdraw cash using the victim's card was caught by the police following a quick service courier's report.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced on the 14th that they arrested the voice phishing withdrawal agent Mr. A on charges of violating the Electronic Financial Transactions Act.
According to the police, around 12 PM on the 13th, Mr. A sent a quick service courier to a post office in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, to receive a delivery box containing a card.
The quick service courier, sensing something suspicious during delivery, reported to 112, saying, "It seems to be voice phishing," and the police conducted a stop-and-search around 1:30 PM in front of the Dorim-dong Community Center in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, arresting Mr. A as he tried to receive the delivery box.
Initially, Mr. A denied the crime but confessed after a card was found inside the delivery box.
Police investigation revealed that Mr. A had withdrawn more than 1 billion KRW over four months since April and transferred it to accomplices involved in voice phishing.
