"‘Worried About Grandchild’s Future’ 70-Year-Old Father Confesses to Killing Daughter with Schizophrenia"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] In April, a man in his 70s in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, who is accused of killing his daughter in her 40s suffering from schizophrenia, revealed his motive, saying, "My daughter's symptoms worsened, and I was worried about the future of my young grandchild." He added, "If my elderly wife and I die first, I thought my daughter would harm my grandchild's life, so I did it."
According to the Pohang Branch of Daegu District Prosecutors' Office and Pohang Bukbu Police Station in Gyeongbuk on the 20th, Mr. A (78) killed his daughter in her 40s, who was living with him, in broad daylight on April 20. Mr. A strangled his daughter with a rope he had prepared in advance, then wrapped her in a sack. He planned to bury her body in a nearby mountain. His wife also assisted.
The couple dug a large hole in the mountain, but moving the body was difficult, so they eventually called a mortician. They told the mortician, "We woke up to find our daughter dead," and asked for burial assistance. However, the mortician refused, saying, "Even if someone dies at home from illness, you must report it to the police," and explained the procedure before leaving.
The next day, Mr. A called 112 to report his daughter's death but concealed his crime by saying, "We woke up to find our daughter dead." The police who arrived found signs of strangulation on the body and questioned Mr. A until he confessed.
