STX Marine Service Donates 200,000 KF-94 Masks to Iraq to Support COVID-19 Overcoming
As a Global Company, Plans to Expand Environmental Protection and Social Value Creation Programs to Realize ESG Values
STX Marine Service (CEO Park Sang-jun) announced that it donated 200,000 KF-94 protective masks to support COVID-19 response efforts in Iraq.
The mask donation ceremony was held on April 28 at the office of the Media Center Director of the Ministry of Electricity in Iraq. Considering the local COVID-19 situation, only key officials attended, including Kim Hong-guk, Head of the Plant Business Division at STX Marine Service, and Mr. Ahmed Al-Abady, Media Center Director of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity.
As of June 1, Iraq has recorded a total of 1.19 million confirmed COVID-19 cases, with severe social damage caused by the pandemic. The country is making every effort to prevent the spread and enforce quarantine measures. STX Marine Service expects this donation to provide practical help to the health and daily lives of the Iraqi people struggling with this unprecedented infectious disease crisis, and to further develop the friendly relationship with the Iraqi government that has been continuously maintained since the start of the 900MW diesel power plant O&M project in Iraq in 2012.
STX Marine Service, a comprehensive engineering service company, signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity for the 900MW diesel power plants located in four regions in Iraq (North Diwaniya, East Diwaniya, Missan, Karbala), and has been operating these plants since July 1, 2018. The contract amount totals USD 500 million over a five-year project period, which is equivalent to approximately KRW 600 billion, making it a large-scale project.
An STX Marine Service official stated, “We hope this donation of protective masks will provide some support to the Iraqi government and people who have actively cooperated for the development of our business despite various difficulties such as COVID-19.” He added, “We will continue to strive to expand our local business and realize ESG values such as coexistence with local communities and social value creation as a global company.”
