Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station Ensures Thorough Fire Prevention for Elderly Dementia Households
Safety Inspections Conducted and Distribution of Residential Fire Safety Equipment
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station (Chief Im Jongbok) is putting all its efforts into fire prevention for households with dementia patients.
On the 23rd, Gwangsan Fire Station announced that as a 'Special Fire Safety Measure for Spring,' it conducted fire prevention safety inspections for elderly dementia households vulnerable to fire through collaboration with related organizations.
This special measure was promoted to advance the project of supplying residential fire safety equipment to vulnerable groups, which has been underway since 2015, aiming to provide a safe living environment for elderly dementia patients located in fire safety blind spots.
Along with distributing residential fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and standalone smoke detectors, gas timer cocks were also installed to prevent gas safety accidents and fires in homes of dementia patients with impaired short-term memory and cognitive functions.
Additionally, a consultative body was formed with related organizations (Gwangsan District Public Health Center, Marine Energy Co., Ltd., Korea Electrical Safety Corporation) to carry out tasks such as ▲providing customized welfare services for dementia patients ▲maintaining old gas pipelines ▲checking the status of circuit breaker switches.
Chief Im Jongbok stated, “We will work together with related organizations to secure the safety of residential environments where dementia patients mainly stay,” and added, “We also hope citizens actively install residential fire safety equipment for everyone's safety.”
