The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 21st at midnight that the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases increased by 561, bringing the total to 134,678.
Among them, 542 cases were domestic transmissions, and 19 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 171 cases, Gyeonggi 161 cases, and Incheon 12 cases, totaling 344 cases (63.5%) in the metropolitan area.
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 198 cases: Chungnam 40, Daegu and Gyeongnam 18 each, Jeonnam 17, Daejeon and Jeonbuk 15 each, Busan, Gwangju, and Ulsan 13 each, Chungbuk 12, Gyeongbuk 11, Gangwon 7, Jeju 5, and Sejong 1.
Among the 19 imported cases, 10 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 9 were confirmed in the local community. Eleven were Korean nationals, and eight were foreigners.
The number of critically ill patients is 147, and the death toll increased by 6 from the previous day, totaling 1,922 deaths. The number of newly released from isolation increased by 499, bringing the cumulative total to 124,158.
The number of suspected cases tested was 39,750. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 37,197 tests were conducted, resulting in 62 confirmed cases. In non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 4,416 tests were conducted, identifying 13 confirmed cases. The total number of tests conducted was 81,363.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, as of midnight on the same day, 11,183 people received new COVID-19 vaccinations, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 3,772,599. The vaccination rate for the first dose relative to the population is 7.3%.
The number of new second-dose vaccinations was 207,795, with a total of 1,482,842 people having completed the second dose. The vaccination completion rate relative to the population is 2.9%.
