Yangcheon-gu Youth Participatory Budget Proposal Project Contest
Budget Increased from 100 Million Won to 200 Million Won Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) is accepting applications for the "2022 Youth Participatory Budget Proposal Project," where youth take the lead in proposing projects they want, until May 14.
The youth participatory budget proposal targets small-scale projects that directly benefit youth, such as experience and volunteer activities, career and learning, welfare, and leisure support. Any youth aged 9 to 18 who reside in Yangcheon-gu or attend school within the district can apply.
This year, to reflect a wider range of youth voices in projects, the total budget has doubled from last year to 200 million KRW, with up to 50 million KRW available per project.
Youth wishing to participate can write a post on the district office website under Administration Disclosure → Open Finance → Budget Opinion Submission Board by May 14, or download the related form and submit it via email, visit, or mail.
The district will review the proposed projects through the relevant departments, the Resident Participatory Budget Committee, and resident voting to select the final projects. The 2022 Youth Participatory Budget Projects will be finalized through the December council review.
Examples of proposals from the 2020 Seoul Youth Budget School include the installation of moon-shaped streetlights to create a safe route home while highlighting the unique character of Sinwol-dong, called "Moon (月) Lighting Sinwol-dong," a "Youth One-Day Intern Experience Program" providing practical and concrete job experience for youth, and the "Youth Rights, Start-Up" challenge project, which shares cases of youth rights violations and raises awareness of youth rights issues.
