US Issues Travel Ban Advisories for Germany, France, Italy, Canada, and Mexico
Japan, Israel, and the United Kingdom Maintain Level 3 Travel Alerts
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United States has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to key European allied countries such as Germany and France. Neighboring countries Mexico and Canada were also added to the travel ban list. Travel advisories for Japan and the United Kingdom remain at the current caution level.
On the 20th (local time), the U.S. Department of State included Germany, France, and Italy among the countries with travel bans in Europe. These countries are experiencing a resurgence of COVID-19 infections due to delays in vaccination.
Canada and Mexico, which share borders with the United States, were also included in the travel ban list.
The U.S. maintained a Level 3 travel advisory for Japan, China, and the United Kingdom. Although Japan is seeing thousands of new COVID-19 cases daily ahead of the Tokyo Summer Olympics, it was not included in the travel ban list.
The United Kingdom, which has lifted lockdowns due to expanded vaccinations, remains under a Level 3 "reconsider travel" advisory. Israel, which has also lifted lockdowns, continues to have a Level 3 travel advisory.
