Samsung Electronics' Next-Generation Foldable 'Galaxy Z Fold3'... Will It Become Smaller and Lighter?
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] Samsung Electronics' next-generation foldable smartphone, the 'Galaxy Z Fold3,' is expected to have both a slightly smaller display and size compared to its predecessor.
On the 13th (local time), according to U.S. IT media The Verge and others, the main tablet display of the Galaxy Z Fold3 is expected to be 7.5 inches, and the front cover display 6.2 inches, slightly smaller than the previous model. The main display and cover display of the 'Galaxy Z Fold2' are 7.6 inches and 6.2 inches, respectively.
The Verge predicted that while the screen size is expected to be almost the same as the previous model, if the additional advantage of a 'zero bezel' is applied, the actual body size of the smartphone could be reduced even if the screen size is similar.
The battery capacity is expected to decrease slightly to 4380 milliampere-hours (mAh) compared to the 4500mAh of the Galaxy Z Fold2. As the battery becomes smaller, the weight is also expected to be slightly lighter, and the small reduction in capacity is considered to be sufficiently compensated by improved internal power efficiency.
There is also speculation that a stylus pen (S Pen) may be introduced. However, it is unclear whether Samsung will adopt a method using an additional case like the 'Galaxy S21 Ultra' or a method of storing the S Pen inside the device. The Verge suggested that if a separate internal storage space for the S Pen is not provided, that space might be removed to increase battery capacity or to make the smartphone overall thinner.
