Detecting Lung Diseases with Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Seoul Gangseo-gu Establishes 'AI Health Center-Based Public Health Medical System'... Introduces AI Diagnostic System for Pulmonary Disease Screening
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is providing residents with smarter and differentiated medical services.
The district announced that it will establish and operate an AI-based medical imaging interpretation system at the Gangseo-gu Public Health Center.
By combining cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which are core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, the aim is to provide high-quality public medical services that residents can directly experience.
This system supports doctors by analyzing the location of suspected lesions and the probability of disease using a vast cloud-based AI engine before the doctor examines the patient's X-ray images to diagnose lung diseases.
Through this, doctors can diagnose major lung diseases more effectively.
The system can analyze four types of lung diseases: lung cancer, tuberculosis, pneumothorax, and pneumonia, and enhances the accuracy and speed of X-ray interpretation with rapid analysis within 10 seconds per case.
Given the high incidence and mortality rates of lung diseases, where accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment are crucial, the introduction of an AI-based medical imaging interpretation system is expected to facilitate early diagnosis and quick treatment of major lung diseases.
The district plans to actively utilize the medical imaging interpretation system for X-ray imaging required for general medical examinations and issuance of health checkup certificates (formerly health certificates) once the public health center's medical services, which were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resume.
A district official stated, "The introduction of this AI interpretation system is expected to greatly contribute to improving residents' health through more accurate and rapid disease diagnosis," and added, "We will continue to strive to provide high-quality, prevention-centered public medical services."
