[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Pop star Beyonc? is once again extending a helping hand to neighbors suffering from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to major foreign media on the 26th (local time), Beyonc? will distribute a total of $500,000 by giving $5,000 each to 100 people starting from the 7th of next month, based on applications from Americans facing the risk of homelessness due to COVID-19.
The BeyGOOD Foundation, operated by Beyonc?, made this decision out of concern that foreclosures and evictions would surge once the government-supported housing payment moratorium ends.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), a U.S. think tank, it is estimated that 9.2 million tenants have lost income and are unable to pay rent. When the moratorium ends, many of them are expected to either pay rent all at once, present repayment plans to landlords, or face eviction.
The foundation explained, "Many families are being shocked due to unemployment, illness caused by COVID-19, and the overall economic downturn."
This is not the first time Beyonc? has extended a warm hand to neighbors suffering from COVID-19.
Previously, the BeyGOOD Foundation partnered with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a Black civil rights organization, to support Black-owned small businesses struggling due to COVID-19. So far, 250 businesses have received $10,000 each.

Additionally, in May, Beyonc? opened a mobile COVID-19 testing site in her hometown of Houston, Texas, together with her mother. In April, she donated $6 million in COVID-19 relief funds in partnership with Jack Dorsey, Twitter's CEO, and his charity foundation Start Small.
