Dongjak-gu Installs Smart Care Devices for Dementia Prevention Management
Selected as Final Winner in Seoul Dementia Prevention Project Support Contest... Equipment Expansion at Dongjak-gu Dementia Safety Center... Cognitive Enhancement Using 36 Types of Play and Learning Contents Including HappyTable and BodySpider... Elastic Rope Exercise Equipment for Strength, Gait, Balance, and Brain Activity Activation
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will expand the installation of smart care devices at the Dongjak-gu Dementia Safety Center following its selection for the Seoul City dementia prevention project support contest.
This project was prepared to contribute to the healthy aging of residents by providing cognitive training and physical activity programs using smart care devices to elderly people aged 65 and over and those at high risk of dementia.
First, to prevent dementia among the elderly, the district will install ‘Happy Table,’ which offers various games such as Happy Table and Body Spider, along with smart dementia management content.
Happy Table features a 43-inch large multi-touch display screen that provides a total of 36 types of content including play and learning to multiple elderly users, helping to improve cognitive abilities.
Two to four elderly participants can cooperate or compete in games that aid psychological stability and brain activity, such as ▲ Dementia Prevention Rule 3.3.3 Play ▲ Balloon Popping ▲ Table Soccer ▲ Brain-boosting Quiz ▲ Number Matching.
In particular, the integrated data management system analyzes real-time changes in the elderly’s condition through ▲ anxiety scale, memory decline assessment simple survey content ▲ Happy Table usage records ▲ detailed data from dementia screening tests.
The district plans to conduct various programs using Happy Table once a week for 120 minutes over eight weeks starting next month.
Additionally, the district will install the ‘Body Spider’ exercise equipment to simultaneously enhance the elderly’s physical activity and cognitive abilities.
Body Spider is a full-body exercise device that uses the elasticity of rubber ropes for resistance training, helping to activate muscle strength, walking, balance ability, and brain activity in the elderly, thereby aiding dementia prevention.
Starting next month, exercise therapists at the Dongjak-gu Dementia Safety Center will conduct sessions once a week for 120 minutes over eight weeks, including ▲ thigh and hip exercises ▲ chest and abdominal muscle exercises ▲ back and shoulder exercises, and ▲ circuit training to improve cardiopulmonary endurance. However, the program may change depending on the COVID-19 situation.
Furthermore, in response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the district provides content through YouTube (channel name Dongchim TV) such as ▲ memory drawing tests for early detection and prevention of dementia ▲ how to use AI speakers to assist non-face-to-face cognitive programs for early-stage dementia elderly ▲ dementia management applications that help self-care for elderly with mild cognitive impairment and dementia.
