On the 9th, according to the New York Post, 24-year-old Olesya Semenova, who lived in Arkhangelsk, Russia, died while bathing in the bathtub of her apartment.
At the time of her death, Semenova was taking a half-body bath with her iPhone plugged into the bathroom outlet.
Paramedics stated that Semenova appeared to have been electrocuted after dropping her charging cellphone into the bathtub. Her roommate Daria, who first discovered the body, also testified, "Semenova's charging cellphone was submerged in water."
Daria said, "I screamed and shook her, but Semenova was pale and not breathing. There was no sign of life at all." She added, "When I touched Semenova, I felt a tingling sensation at my fingertips."
Semenova often posted selfies taken in her bathtub on Instagram.
The Russian Emergency Medical Service Center warned, "This tragic incident reminds us once again that electronic devices connected to power should never come into contact with water," adding, "This applies to all electronic devices, so electronic products must never be used during bathing."
