‘Longest Period of Regular Blood Donation’ Jangseong County Resident Kim Byung-gu Certified by Korea Records Institute
Since 1971... Practicing Life Sharing by Donating Blood 401 Times Over 49 Years
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that Kim Byung-gu (69), a resident of Jangseong-eup, was certified by the Korea Records Institute for the ‘Longest Period of Regular Blood Donation Record.’
Kim Byung-gu participated in blood donation a total of 401 times over 49 years and 7 months, from September 1971, when the Korean Red Cross started its blood donation project, until May of this year.
In 1971, while attending high school in Seoul, Kim happened to come across a blood donation notice on the street and became interested in ‘sharing life.’ This connection with blood donation began then and continued for nearly 50 years.
The Korea Records Institute, which certified Kim’s blood donation record, is a record certification specialist organization. After reviewing the blood donation certificates issued by the Korean Red Cross, annual blood donation lists, and materials Kim had kept, the certification was finalized.
Yoo Doo-seok, the mayor of Jangseong-gun, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Kim Byung-gu, who has personally practiced love and sharing of life, has greatly contributed to raising the pride and dignity of the citizens of Jangseong-gun.”
