WETAX Website and Mobile App Improved for Easier Taxpayer Use
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 15th that it has newly revamped the nationwide local tax filing and payment service, the Wetax website (www.wetax.go.kr) and mobile app, to make them easy and convenient for everyone to use.
Wetax is a nationwide local tax filing and payment service that provides various services such as inquiry, filing, and payment of 11 types of local taxes including acquisition tax, property tax, and local income tax, as well as local non-tax revenue such as fines, certificate issuance, and refund inquiry and application. As of September 2020, the number of subscribers reached 9.54 million.
This revamp focused on enhancing intuitiveness and accessibility so that taxpayers can grasp various local tax information at a glance and quickly find the desired menu. Improvements centered on taxpayer convenience include minimizing scrolling within the site, reorganizing help menus, and guiding business procedures.
The main screen arranges key services such as quick payment, the local tax annual calendar, and direct access to local taxes in card format for one-click access, and added a 'Local Tax Calendar' feature that allows users to view the annual filing and payment schedule at a glance. The 'Direct Access to Local Taxes' service provides detailed guidance not only on previously hard-to-understand local tax information but also on filing, payment, and additional service applications.
Additionally, by analyzing the annual local tax schedule and user usage records, the 'Customized Direct Access' offers frequently used menus monthly, enabling direct access to desired services according to the local tax schedule. A temporary save function for filing forms was newly introduced to eliminate the inconvenience of having to rewrite forms from the beginning, and various convenience features such as pre-calculating local taxes were also added.
Furthermore, the local tax payment service via smartphones was improved, allowing local taxes to be paid anytime and anywhere through mobile devices.
Meanwhile, to improve the stiff and difficult image of local taxes, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety selected the friendly character 'Ujjjujju' as the local tax promotional character and plans to promote various activities such as online and offline events and production of promotional materials.
