Huons' Customized Probiotics Popular Among Menopausal Women
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Huons' 'Elubimeno Lacto Probiotics,' launched targeting menopausal women, is gaining popularity through word of mouth among middle-aged and older adults. As women age, hormones such as estrogen decrease, causing menopausal symptoms, and concerns about weakened immunity due to hormonal changes have led to an increase in demand for customized probiotics.
Launched in April this year, this product mainly attracts female consumers aged from their 40s to 60s. The company explained that it has established itself as a 'must-have item,' with continuous sell-outs on major distribution channels such as home shopping. A company representative said, "Recently, it has become popular as a representative health functional food for menopausal women in their 40s and 60s," adding, "Not only on home shopping but also on official online stores, the number of visitors and customer inquiries has significantly increased."
The main ingredient is a probiotic called Lactobacillus acidophilus YT1 (hereafter YT1), known as an estrogen-activating probiotic. This probiotic helps express the estrogen receptor β (ER2) in women, activating female hormones and alleviating various menopausal symptoms caused by decreased estrogen levels in the body. A human application test conducted on Koreans confirmed that menopausal symptoms significantly improved after 12 weeks of intake. It is the first probiotic in Korea to be recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for its functionality in improving menopausal symptoms in women.

According to the company, menopausal women who consumed YT1 showed improvements in 10 individual symptom items of the Kupperman index, a representative menopausal evaluation indicator, including hot flashes, vaginal dryness and decreased secretions, numbness in hands and feet, nervousness, depression, palpitations, musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, formication, and headaches. Improvements were also proven in physical symptoms, psychosocial symptoms, and vascular motor status. It has attracted attention especially as it is known to help intestinal health and boost immunity, which middle-aged and older women often overlook. The product applies a patented triple coating technology to ensure the probiotics survive stomach acid and safely reach the intestines, and individual packaging is used considering the probiotics' sensitivity to light and moisture.
