Samsung and LG Electronics Face Off with New Kimchi Refrigerator Models in the Second Half of the Year
'Bespoke Kimchi Plus' 19 Types Panel Selection
'Dios Kimchi Tok Tok' Equipped with Long-term Storage Function
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have officially entered the new product competition this second half of the year, starting with kimchi refrigerators. The new products emphasize not only kimchi storage functions but also the versatility of products usable throughout all four seasons.
On the 31st, Samsung Electronics announced the launch of the new premium kimchi refrigerator, the ‘Bespoke Kimchi Plus.’ The new product features 19 types of door panels to choose from. It is available in three types: a freestanding 4-door with ample storage space, a 3-door with Kitchen Fit for a built-in effect, and a 1-door model.
In particular, this new product offers not only the colors applied to the existing Bespoke refrigerators but also four Hond Metal series colors that match the recently released Chef Collection refrigerators, allowing harmony with Samsung’s refrigerators.
The Bespoke Kimchi Plus supports ‘Ultra-Precision Metal Cooling Technology,’ which maintains temperature variation within ±0.3 degrees to produce crisp kimchi taste as if stored underground in midwinter, a ‘Custom Storage’ mode that allows temperature adjustment according to the type of kimchi, and a ‘Custom Fermentation’ mode to adjust the fermentation level to taste.
Reflecting the trend of using it as a multi-purpose refrigerator, it includes 17 customized storage functions such as Potato and Banana modes for root vegetables and tropical fruits that are prone to softening or spoilage, modes for optimal storage of grains or wine which are difficult to store, Meat and Fish modes that keep meat and fish fresh in a semi-frozen state, and a ‘Cham-mat Meat’ mode that applies a meat aging algorithm to enhance flavor.
The Bespoke Kimchi Plus new products range from 1.4 million to 5.99 million KRW depending on the product type and capacity based on the retail price. Samsung Electronics offers benefits worth up to 600,000 KRW to customers who purchase both Bespoke refrigerators and the new Bespoke Kimchi Plus products simultaneously.
LG Electronics has also recently launched the new ‘DIOS Kimchi Tok Tok’ to capture customers. Starting with a 402ℓ large-capacity stand-type product, they plan to sequentially release 40 models.
The new product is equipped with the ‘New Probiotic Kimchi+’ function. This function increases the probiotics that enhance kimchi flavor up to 57 times compared to the normal storage mode and enables long-term storage.
For the first time, it also applies the ‘AI Custom Storage’ function, which recognizes packaged kimchi purchased from CJ CheilJedang and finds the optimal storage method.
Inheriting the differentiated advantages of existing products, each compartment at the top, middle, and bottom of the kimchi refrigerator can store not only kimchi but also various ingredients. The main stand-type models with capacities of 327ℓ, 402ℓ, and 505ℓ apply a three-stage cooling care system consisting of cooling, circulation, and maintenance.
