Every year, environmental issues arise due to packaging waste generated along with holiday gift sets, as well as packaging that is difficult to separate and recycle. In response, Lotte Mart operates gift sets packaged with eco-friendly materials that are recyclable and biodegradable, and designed for reuse.
First, for fruit gift sets, 100% paper materials are used without any plastic or Styrofoam, and although more costly than conventional ink, a soy ink printing method that reduces organic chemical emissions has been applied. In particular, Lotte Mart independently developed a paper material “nanja” that maintains sufficient function to prevent fruit from shaking, ensuring safe delivery.
Additionally, mushroom and ginseng gift sets will be introduced without the use of plastic, and meat gift sets will apply cooling bags that can be used as shopping bags or cooling bags, enabling various reuse rather than simple single-use.
The ice packs used for seafood and livestock products also use eco-friendly auxiliary materials. The contents are filled with 100% water, and the packaging uses kraft paper instead of nonwoven fabric, making it easy to separate and recycle.
Meanwhile, through the “Resource Circulation Project,” Lotte Mart is implementing key tasks to protect the environment and has announced plans to reduce vinyl and plastic used in Lotte Mart by 50% by 2025 and to reduce food waste in stores by 30% by 2025.
