LG Display Obtains OLED Picture Quality Accuracy Certification... "Original Colors Preserved"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Display announced on the 25th that it recently obtained the 'Accurate Picture Quality' certification for its OLED TV panels after testing by Intertek, a global testing and certification organization based in the UK.
The test consisted of three key picture quality factors: color fidelity, black luminance, and viewing angle.
In the color fidelity measurement, which quantifies the difference between the colors intended by the original work and those displayed on the actual TV, the OLED TV panels scored between 0.79 and 0.94, below the standard threshold of 1. This is approximately three times better than premium LCD TVs and is comparable to the performance of professional reference monitors costing tens of millions of won used in color grading and editing processes in film production.
OLED TVs can control the light of each of the tens of millions of pixels individually to reproduce colors, allowing them to express colors intended by video creators more accurately without distortion, such as the orange sky of Mars or the emerald sea.
The color fidelity test evaluates the differences in brightness, saturation, and chromaticity between the original and the TV screen for 729 selected colors out of approximately one billion colors that the display can reproduce. A score between 0 and 1 indicates a level difficult even for experts to distinguish, between 1 and 3 indicates a level distinguishable by experts, and above 3 indicates a level distinguishable by the general public.
In the black luminance test, perfect black reproduction accurately expressed the original intent. The viewing angle test also showed the same picture quality from the left and right sides as from the front, confirming overall picture quality excellence.
Perfect black enhances the vividness of other colors and demonstrates clear value in movies and games, while a wide viewing angle is increasingly important as it provides consistent color and picture quality from any position on large-screen TVs.
Prior to this Accurate Picture Quality certification, OLED TV panels had already obtained 'Flicker Free' and 'Low Blue Light' certifications and verifications from multiple certification bodies.
Oh Chang-ho, Vice President and Head of LG Display’s TV Business Division, said, "As non-face-to-face culture spreads, viewing of movies, performances, and art through TVs is increasing, making accurate TV expression more important." He added, "Through this certification, we will inform consumers of the excellence of OLED TVs and actively promote the mainstream adoption of OLED."
