A Man in His 50s Arrested and Sent to Prosecution for Assaulting an Elementary Student and Wielding a Weapon at Bystanders in a Playground
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 50s who assaulted an elementary school student and brandished a weapon at citizens in a playground in Seoul has been detained and handed over to the prosecution.
On the 25th, the Guro Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent Mr. A, a man in his 50s who was detained on charges of injury and special intimidation, to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment.
According to the police, on the 19th at around 6:25 p.m., Mr. A approached an elementary school student, Mr. B, who was playing in a playground in Guro-gu, and violently assaulted him with fists and feet. He also threatened another citizen, Mr. C, who was reporting the incident to the police, and a passerby, Mr. D, who was trying to stop the assault, by brandishing a weapon.
As a result of Mr. A’s crime, Mr. B sustained injuries to his head and arms and received hospital treatment.
Mr. A was caught in the act by the responding police and reportedly stated during the investigation, "I do not remember because I was drunk."

The police applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A the day after the crime, and the court issued the warrant requested by the prosecution.
